A fridge that suddenly stops cooling can quickly become a stressful situation – especially when it risks food spoilage. The good news is that many common fridge issues can be reduced or delayed with a few simple care habits.
Do not pack shelves and compartments so tightly that cold air cannot circulate. Avoid blocking vents at the back of the fridge and leave a small gap between containers so cold air can move freely.
Worn or dirty rubber door gaskets allow cold air to escape, making the compressor work harder and increasing power consumption. Wipe the seals with a soft cloth and ensure the door closes evenly without gaps.
Putting very hot food directly in the fridge forces it to work extra hard to stabilise the temperature. Let food cool down to room temperature first, then cover and store it.
Extremely low temperature settings do not always mean better cooling and can cause frost build-up instead. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended temperature range for both the fridge and freezer sections.
Dust around the rear of the fridge and the surrounding area periodically. Good airflow around the appliance helps efficient heat dissipation and reduces strain on the compressor.
Unusual noises, water leakage, warm sections or frost build-up are signs that your fridge needs attention. Early diagnosis often means simpler repairs and protects the appliance from major faults.
If your fridge still struggles to cool properly even after basic checks, Trufix Appliance Services can help diagnose the issue and recommend the right repair at your doorstep.
